My Next Steps

Now that steamposium is past it’s time for me to try and figure out what’s next. I am pretty satisfied with what I have learned with leather working so far. I need the next material to learn on my lifelong goal of being a modern Renaissance Woman. To that end I wanted to lay down my next couple of projects.

First off, leather working. I’ve really enjoyed learning how to work with leather, all the different ins and outs for the material. Before I move on to my next project there are a few things I want to do with leather. I have some stock I was preparing for the convention that I want to put some finishing touches on. I wasn’t able to sell them at Steamposium because it was canceled, so now I want to try and push them on my Etsy. Keep an eye for that, some items will be going on sale this week! Then I have a few last personal projects for things I’ve wanted to make for myself and that should neatly wrap up my time in leather. I’m still going to take leatherwork commissions and use it in my own projects, but I’m not going to commit my time to leather any more.

What is next then? The next physical craft I want to focus on is my sewing. For a costume designer, sewing should be my bread and butter, but it isn’t. Instead there many parts of seamstressing that I am either unfamiliar with or inexperienced with. The next couple of months, maybe even well into 2019 I will be focusing on sewing and seamstress skills. That means creating my own patterns, modifying patterns, tailoring, and of course creating costumes. I have quite a few costumes on my register right now that I want to work on, and I have to improve my sewing skills for all of them. I also have a few personal around the house projects I want to work on as well.

Along with my sewing skills I want to work on some of my digital skills as well. Namely video editing. I feel like I have a lot of potential content in my stream archives and I want to make more content in the future by recording my work sessions. In order to take advantage of that I’m going to need to get better at video editing. So on my youtube channel I’m going to try and start posting highlight videos from my streams, as well as some scare compilations from Subnautica.

Lastly I think I want to do more with my modeling. A few years back I did a little amatuer modeling and after inktober it was a lot of fun to show of some of my outfits I put together. I want to try putting together a weekly costume just from my closet or materials I have on hand to model.

2018 is on it’s way out. 2019 looks to be an exciting year for my crafting. I hope everyone comes along with me for the ride. I would love for you to see what I will make.
